Java and Jams has gone out of business. I believe that the owner and his wife bought Cool Beans, where they are casting their lot.

These small coffeeshops should reconsider where they buy their roasted coffee. One glance over the "Best Of Birmingham" surveys in the various papers reveals that no one chooses coffeeshops that serve Higher Ground. Try o kafes!, Primavera, or perhaps even O'Henry's.

I agree that the owner of Java and Jams and now Cool Beans is one of its pluses. Find a new roaster!

I did not realize that Java and Jams had closed. It isn't too surprising since they are so close to Urban Standard. Actually Safari Cup (nearby) closed as well. I actually like Higher Ground coffee but Primavera and O'Henry's are excellent. I need to go back to Cool Beans and see what it is like now.
